In this course, our working definition of mentoring1, 2 is as follows:
Mentoring is a collaborative, developmental learning relationship that proceeds through purposeful stages over time and has the primary goal of helping a mentee to acquire the essential competencies needed for successful advancement in a research training program or research career.
